Isaiah Chapter 1-9 - June 30th, 2026

Updated: 1 day ago

Assignment: Read through Isaiah chapters 1-9. At the end of this agenda there are youtube videos, featuring Gary Hamrick. I find him to be entertaining and he covers all 66 chapters of Isiah. For our meeting on the 30th, please watch the videos and/or read the scripture.

I am taking nltes on each Video lesson. You are welcome to peak at them but ignore my grammar and spelling errors. They are rough. :) See Mimi's Notes

I prepared some discussion questions below. Some are relative to the video but others might require a deeper dive. I added some links I found useful.

Agenda:

Opening prayer and intention - All

Discussion questions - All

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS - We may not go over all of these. I will post my answers after the meeting.

Chapter 1-5:

Questions

  1. Isaiah 1:17 calls God’s people to “seek justice, correct oppression, bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.” What would it look like for our small group/church to live this out in practical ways today? Isaiah 1:17 web commentary

Only God can take away the crimson, the stain and the judgement and the sins. We should be like God.

  1. Where do you see examples of “empty religion” in today’s world — or in your own life? How can we guard against it? Hint: What does the video say about the indictment of Judah? Judah was practicing the religions but was evil in their ways.

  1. Why is Isaiah considered a major prophet? Its related to the number of chapters, being the longest and sometimes called the 5th gospel.

  1. What is the Hebrew name for Isaiah? The Hebrew name for Isaiah is Yeshayahu (יְשַׁעְיָהוּ), or sometimes spelled Yeshayah (יְשַׁעְיָה).

    • Meaning: It translates to "Yahweh is salvation" or "God saves"

  1. Where does Isaiah fall chronologically in the bible? The Book of Isaiah is located in the Old Testament of the Bible. It is the 23rd book overall and the first of the Major Prophets.

Specifically, you can find it positioned immediately after the Book of Song of Solomon and right before the Book of Jeremiah.

Chapter 6:

Questions

  1. Isaiah felt unworthy in the presence of God. How do you experience God's holiness in relation to your own shortcomings?

  1. How does Isaiah answer when the Lord asked Who shall I send and Who will go for us? See Isaiah 6:8

Chapter 7-9: Questions

  1. What actions did Ahaz take that were so evil? Sacrificed his sons, defied God by not worshiping in the church, God gave him leprosy. Creating false Gods.

  1. Why would God choose to give the blessed news about our Messiah to the most wicked King in history?

Chose to give blessed news to the most wicked King in he history. Why does God show up to help him? He killed his own sons? Ahaz is typical of humanity is in all of us.

We are all sinners. We have all done evil things, through our thoughts and actions. For all the Ahaz's after you I will give you a sign, a child will be born who will be our counselor. He will reign on the thrown of David.
