Notes from Isiah Chapter 1-9 (Video: Gary Hamrick)

Isaiah 1-5: Gary Hamrick video

Man has lost his moral reference point and has made himself his own moral agent. What happened in 740 BC is still happening today.

Despite all the sin and rebellion and ignorance and defiance. Isiah Chapter 1 vs 18 gives us hope. We are stained by sin. We cannot remove it with our own efforts. Come now and lets reason together. I can take the stain of a nation and the stain of a human heart and make it white like snow and wool. God beacons us to come to him. There is a rest stop on the way to heaven.

The hope for the nation is the hope for the human soul but God can remove the Crimson

Isaiah 6: A Vision of Heaven

God's Calling: Reviewed that Isaiah is prophet to Judah, southern Israel. Isaiah sees King die, describes the angels, Holy holy holy is Lord almighty they sing. This chapter documents Isaiah to be a voice for his generation and prophezise for future generations. This happened prior to 1-5, but inserted here in order to prove Isaiah's ministry. When Uziah the king dies in 740 BC but Isiah's vision comforts the people because God is still on the throne. He saw the lord, Kings will come and go but God will always be on the throne of heaven.

God is always on the throne. During our trials, we can always say, In the year that I had breast cancer, I saw the the Lord. David psalm 25 vs 15. My eyes are ever on the Lord. God is always the living God. A Seraphim is the angels that call God Holy. Holy, holy, holy is the lord almighty and the whole earth is full of his glory.

God is majestic and holy. Psalm 96:9: We must worship the Lord in all his Glory.

God is a mirror to my soul.  The same thing will happen to us in the presense of the Lord. You begin to see a mirror of yourself. This contrasts to holiness we see our own unholiness, sinfulness, loveless nest. We realize our own broken condition.

God is the remedy of Sin - live coal brought to his lips by a Seraphim to give Isaiah atonement. the coal comes from the throne of God. The angel uses a tong and cannot use his hands to be but the coal can be in the angel hand to provide a personal touch of atonement. It is white hot purity of God that is given to Isaiah so that Isaiah can be used to spread God's word.

God speaks : Vs. 8: Who shall I send and who will go for us (reflection of trinity). Isaiah answers, Hear am I, send me. Here I am, look me over and see if I will do.  Who will let the world know that God is our salvation?

God is still Using People to reach people.  Do we want to be one of these people? Could you be an Isaiah for this generation? Is God calling use to be a vessel? Where ever we live, go, work, we need to be salt and light of the world. Some our called to be in full time ministry. Do we know anyone that is like that in our lives?

NOTES: Chapter 7-9:

Ahaz is king of Judah which is Southern part of Israel and capital is Jerusalem. The northern king of Israel join forces with Syria to go after Judah. God says to Isaiah, go and comfort Ahaz.. Chapter 7 vs. 4; Be careful, keep calm and do not be afraid. God calls northern king and Syria kings, Smoldering stubs of firewood and God says everything will be ok in vs. 9; If you do not stand firm in your faith, you won't stand at all. Faith in God is all we have when circumstances become difficult and unreliable.

God tells Ahaz to ask him for a sigh but Ahaz, does not want a sign because he won't put to him to the test. Because normally it is not right to ask for a sign?

Isaiah, vs 13-14; here now you house of David, Is it not ENOUGH to try the patience of men, will you try the patient of my God also? so Isaiah adds in vs 14; therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign.

Rose? Do you think God helps us with Yahtzee after studying this lesson, LOL.

Isiah 7:14: Prophesizes Mary as the virgin and the messiah will be born and will give birth of the son of God and this is 700 years before it actually happened. He will be called Emanuael which means God with us. This vs. fulfilled in Christ. Matthew in Gospel chapter 1 quotes from Isiah this vs. 700 years later. Matthew 1:22 and 23 quotes. Matthew is a Jew and undertstands the hebrew and translates to Greek where he uses another work that would define as an actual virgin. Perfect sacrafice, natural birth through a supernatural conception and natural birth. Since Adam, the human father has sinned and so it needed to be supernautual via God.

Chapter 9 vs 1: No more gloom for those in distress. In Isaiah and Jesus day, there was a great population of gentiles. The galielee of the gentile. By the way of the sea of Galilee, and in Israel, God's favor will come. Messiah ministry is Capernium, he lives here 3 years. To minister and spread good news. Jesus was always part of us but was given in birth.

300 prophecies in the old testament were fulfilled in the new testament. The odds of fulfilling 48 of these is 1 and 10/157th power.

Why did God choose to give King of Judah, Ahaz this pronouncement through Isiah 700 years before it actually happens. Bible says he is a wicked King. Ahaz takes money from the God's house to buy favor from another King. Second King 16. Ahaz builds a pagan alter he replicates what he saw. Second Chronicles 18; he tells his people they can worship anywhere and he worships false God's. 2 Chronicles 28: 1-3.

Chose to give blessed news to the most wicked King in he history. Why does God show up to help him? He killed his own sons? Ahaz is typical of humanity is in all of us.

We are all sinners. We have all done evil things, through our thoughts and actions. For all the Ahaz's after you I will give you a sign, a child will be born who will be our counselor. He will reign on the thrown of David.
