Reflection on Today's Scripture- 10/13/2025

As I read the scripture today, I realized a superficial reflection wouldn't suffice, prompting me to delve deeper. I explored the commentary and then turned to the story of Jonah. The Old Testament captivates me, especially how Jesus frequently references it while preaching to his contemporaries. For more on Jonah and his significance in the Old Testament, see https://www.gotquestions.org/Book-of-Jonah.html

Initially, this scripture made me think about how we all seek proof or a sign from God to truly believe. We don't have the privilege of being directly preached to by Jesus. However, we do have the Holy Spirit and the word of God through the Bible. Our faith should suffice, but don't we all desire proof of God's existence?

I've concluded that Jesus is being facetious when he says the only sign will be that of Jonah. He says this because he is addressing his own people who know Jonah's story. They are supposed to have faith in God and already believe. They are sinning and not adhering to the commandments. Jesus's goal with his people is to lead them to repentance, but they demand proof of his identity first.

Personally, I used to always seek proof of God's existence. As a child, I often received such proof. I believe God is kind to children and often provides proof to bolster their faith. Recently, I've noticed how the word of God through the Bible has strengthened my faith and obedience. I frequently catch myself having negative thoughts or judging others. I try to repent most days now, as it's impossible to be without sin.

While I would love to hear from Jesus personally, I no longer ask for proof of his existence. This is because my faith has been growing daily as I spend more time in God's word. I still cherish hearing his voice, like I did that day at Dollar General. See Wake me up Lord . I pray and seek guidance, and God reveals this to me through scripture, my daily activities, my relationships with others, and the peace I feel.
